work hard and be nice to people.

This whole graphic design thing is finally paying off. I get to pursue my passion from the comfort of my own home AND be with my kids full time. I am extremely lucky. I never would have guessed that my very expensive college major would be more than worth it in the long run.

I've been doing this for a while. After graduating from the University of Kansas in (gulp!) 1998, I moved to Chicago to begin my career. Ah yes, the naive Kansas girl in the big city! It was not easy. I changed jobs several times in an amount of time so short I'm too embarrassed to reveal. Finally I settled into a studio and remained there for seven years, progressing from junior designer to account manager for the company’s largest account.

Time for the ’burbs. As the natural progression to suburban life came about with marriage and children in the future, I decided it was time to explore the possibility of working independently. In early 2008, both Erin German Design and my first son were born.

What I've learned. Work hard and be nice to people. In business and in life, I find this simple philosophy to be rewarding in many ways.
